Roles Overview

Project Engineer

Responsible for creating design documentation for use with permitting and construction activities.  For civil engineering projects, typical design elements involve

  • Construction phasing
Beginning with the end in mind

Every project will have a unique set of circumstances.  A well-thought out phasing sequence will optimize construction efficeincy and minimize disturbances to other affected activities within the project limits

  • Erosion control
    Mindfull of the planet

In most cases, disturbing more than 2000 square feet of earth will require a permit and construction Best Management Practices to control soil erosion.

  • Geometric Control
    Established on a datum

Site plan design establishes contruction limits allowing calculation of material quantities.  Commonly, geometric design is dictated by code from various regulatory sources.

  • Geotechnical Analysis
    Geological Discovery

Soils can be cohesive or non-cohesive; soil bearing pressure defines the structure upon which it rests.  Pavements and foundations are governed by the geology in the project area.

  • Grading
    Is truly an art

Earth moving has been practiced for millennia. Grading greatly affects construction project cost which can be optimized by a skilled engineer.  Perhaps more importantly, grading directs storm water to an engineered containment area for processing.

  • Storm Water
    Rainwater Management

Typically, it is desireable to treat and / or control effluent of a storm within the property / project area.  Stormwater management of human activity is perhaps the biggest influencer in keeping the planet in it's natural state.

  • Pavement and Foundations
    The backbone

There is more than what meets the eye for pavements.  Properly designed and maintained pavements can last for generations.  For most civil projects, pavements can be the most expensive item on the ticket.  For this reason, special care should be taken during design and construction to ensure money is well spent.

  • Utilities
    Our lifelines

Utilities seperate the modern from the primitvie human.  The luxury of having vital life-sustaining utilities brought and disposed from your home or business is underappreciated until something goes wrong.  Complex projects require in-depth conflict analysis to avoid costly construction change orders.

  • Specifications
The meat and potatoes of design

Specifications define all aspects of a material's composition and the required testing during construction.  Argueably more important than plans, specifications dictate the final products durability.

  • Cost Estimating
    Checking all the boxes

Accurate cost estimates are vital in keeping projects at or under budget. It takes a special understanding of local resources, contractor participation and general experience in dealing with similar types of projects.

  • Reports
    The who when why

Plans and specifications give the final outcome, but reports tell the story of how the design got there.  Documenting design decisions in an easy to read and understand format is essential for consultant-client communication.

Project Manager

A strong project manager is a strong leader. It is not only critical to understand the principles of design and construction, but also know how to run a a project like a business owner.

  • Business Development
    Planting seeds for tomorrow

Building and maintaining relationships is the foundation for the work we do.  Building trust is not accomplished overnight and can only be accomplished with perseverance and proven performance.

  • Proposal Writing
    A winning approach

Competition brings out the best in people.  Hopefully your best can beat their best.  Proposals not only need past success, but innovative approaches that set you apart from others.

  • Team Building
    Assemble the roster

Without the team, there is nothing. Winning a project is only the start, and to ensure future success it is best to invest in a team that is invested in the project, otherwise the project is lost before it even starts.

  • Subconsultant Management
    Key pieces

Clear communication is required when managing subconsultants, and a firm understanding of schedules and desgin processes is crucial when meeting deadlines on deliverables that are not under your control.

  • Client Management
    The hand that feeds

We are not always right when we a right.  Being humble, responsive and turning in good work will never dissapoint. Communication with clients should be clear, concise and simplified.

  • Budgets
    Tracking costs

The budget is the cross we must bare.  Properly forecosting to completion and always knowing where you are at is ket for staying on track with budgets.

  • Schedules
    Deadlines met

Few things are as sacred as the schedule.  It is the front from which we battle, and is the place where will revel in victory or defeat.

  • Contract Administration
    Terms and Conditions

Understanding the vehicle in which the project operates and compensates is crucial on staying within the good graces of the project.

  • Financials
    Counting beans

We are in this business to make money.  If we cannot do this then what is it we are doing?
